Ghost River Theatre ·
Based in Calgary, Alberta and led by Artistic Director Eric Rose and Executive Director Christy Offer, Ghost River Theatre (GRT) is Canada's premier devised theatre company. GRT's mission is to drive boundary-pushing and immersive creative experiences in original live performance. We develop original live performance experiences through significant investment in imaginative research and experimentation.
GRT makes work in a rigorous, supportive collaborative-creation environment that recognizes and utilizes the unique abilities of all participants from the beginning of the creation process. We value the daring, the illuminative, and the surprising. Our intention is to engage audiences in meaning-making experiences that push the boundaries of live performance, while wrestling with the complexities of our contemporary moment.
Over our 32-year history, our unique creation process has yielded an impressive roster of critically acclaimed productions: ONE, The Highest Step in the World, Tomorrow’s Child, GIANT, The Last Voyage of Donald Crowhurst, and STRUCK, amongst many others.
We premiere our work in Calgary and then tour it nationally and internationally. Recently in 2023, GRT's immersive sound experience Tomorrow's Child was presented for a month-long run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, garnering praise from international critics such as "This is perhaps one of the most unique experiences on offer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival." (Theatre Thoughts, Australia.)
GRT is honoured to be an arts leader in the Calgary, Alberta, and national cultural ecologies. Each year GRT hosts and teaches artists from all over the world through our Devised Theatre Intensives. As a leader in our community, GRT co-founded and manages The West Village Theatre, an 80-seat black box performance and administrative space located in Calgary’s inner-city neighbourhood of Sunalta.

Echoes of the Land
Echoes of the Land invites audiences to immerse themselves in a transcendent auditory journey rooted in the spirit, stories, and rhythms of the land. Led by drummer and vocalist Cedric Lightning, traditional drummer and knowledge keeper Skip Wolfleg, spoken word poet Alanna Bluebird, and multi-disciplinary settler musicians Kris Demeanor, Kenna Burima and Tauran, this unique performance transcends traditional theatre. Designed as a sound bath to engage the senses, audiences lie blindfolded, fully immersed in a meditative realm of discovery and deep reflection on the land.
Produced by Ghost River Theatre, Echoes of the Land was co-created by Elder Clarence Wolfleg, Director Eric Rose, Knowledge Keeper and Traditional Drummer Skip Wolfleg, Assistant Director Jennie Esdale, Musical Director Kris Demeanor, Spoken Word Artist Alanna Bluebird, and musicians Kenna Burima, Tauran, and Cedric Biggie Lightning. It premiered at the 2025 High Performance Rodeo to rave reviews and was nominated for two 2025 Betty Mitchell Awards, winning Best Musical Direction.
